Myer Fashions on the Field Winner 2019 – Winning Outfit FTOF

The Myer FOTF again drew in crowds of gorgeous women in fabulous outfits. Which other race meet in the world would you see this many immaculately dressed fashionistas all congregated in one place! It always blows me away and it’s a wonder how the judges can pick that winner. So many have perfectly styled themselves for these three huge days over the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Some just own the catwalk more than others.

To catch the judges attention takes more than just a pretty face and a great outfit. To be in contention for the winner’s sash, you have to have a confident presence as well when you step onto the catwalk. This is one hard FOTF competition to win!

The fashionista with the most was Carena West from New Zealand. Carena had placed third on Derby Day, followed by her win on Melbourne Cup Day in her self-made colourful floral embroidered dress and Claire Hann (also from NZ) vintage-style millinery. Apart from her pretty dress, Carena sported a beautiful smile and a baby bump! Yes, she’s five and a half months pregnant and dressed so well that nobody noticed unless they heard her declaring it or if they looked really closely! The pregnancy glow was the winning accessory!

Carena returned to Kennedy Oaks Day to compete against the winners from Derby Day (Adele Pearce) and of Kennedy Oaks Day (Stephanie Kwong) for the Victorian title. Stephanie Kwong was sashed the winner of the Kennedy Oaks Day FOTF wearing a purple and red self-designed ensemble created by Sovata Fashion Millinery. After winning the Victorian title, Carena had to compete for the national title against the other State Finalists. Carena won the national title of the Myer Fashions On The Field 2019, walking away with the Lexus and a whole lot of other goodies.

Fashions on the Field Trends 2019/2020

This year’s Myer Fashions On The Field competition had us all wondering right up to the last minute who would take home the exclusive (elusive for most) sash. The competition started months ago with the separate state competitions. After seeing last year’s top three winners of the national competition all wearing designs stocked in Myer (Roksanda, Maticevski and Acler) there were a lot of ladies scrambling in to the store this year in the hopes of putting together that winning look. This was sure to have had sales soaring for a bit. We rightly guessed that the Derby Day’s winner could not possibly be sashed the Victorian title as she was wearing a Maticevski dress, as the designer had moved over to David Jones! Other contestants, such as the winner (Carena West), the runner-up (Peta Bell) and third place getter (Mildred Elwood) threw caution to the wind and designed their own outfits with great success. Looks like the judges were after colour and some vintage vibes which seems to be the sweeping trend.

Whether you won a sash or not, congratulations to all of you beautiful and dedicated FOTF fashionistas. You all make it such a colourful and wonderful scene to be part of.

Hopefully this tradition lasts for many years to come! Don’t follow trends just for the sake of being on trend! Stay true to yourself and wear what makes you feel fabulous as this is what it’s all about.

We love photographing you all and being there to see how your style evolves each year.
